Tool Accessory Kit
Air Compressors/Paint sprayer?
I'm thinking about buying a Husky 11 Gal air compressor (Home Depot) that comes with a tool kit. I would like to have an air compressor around the house and have some doors that I will be painting myself soon. Does anyone have an opinion on this brand of compressor or any painters out there that can give me some advice or suggestions on spray painting? I've never done it before and would like to learn how. The compressor I'm looking at says it has a "sprayer" among the tools that come with it, should I look at buying any additional accessories?
Nice tool to have,but agree that 11 gal reservoir is a little large for most home applications.
It will allow for longer time of use between refilling cycles though.
The Husky is probably OK for once in a while use ,however.
You get what you pay for.
If it was my money , I'd go for a Campbell Hausfeld compressor w/ a good regulator & buy the tools & accessories as needed.
Have to decide what you are going to do with it.
Most people I know end up using their compressors to fill bike tires & blowing the bugs out of their gas grills.
Impact tools require more pressure than a spray gun or power nailer for instance.
Shooting paint requires a good gun w/ the proper nozzle to get good results.
If it is just a couple of doors that are getting a color coat, a mohair roller will give an excellent finish for about $3.00
Nothing like a good spray outfit for applying laquer & other clear finishes if you plan on doing a lot of it.
Scout around for a store that specializes in compressors ,spray equipment & pneumatic tools for ideas as to matching the tools to your needs.
One thing not to do without is a moisture trap.
Also they mean it when they recommend bleeding condensation out of the reservoir.
As for painting tips, it would require a novel length guide.
Short version...
A double action gun air only then paint ( most are), proper nozzle, proper pressure .
Start & stop applying paint before & after each pass.
Keep work area & the workpiece clean.
Keep gun at constant distance from the piece & don' wave it around.
Several thin coats applied at different angles to the previous coat.
A spray painter's mask is a must.
