what grade are stainless steel hex head bolts?
How can you tell the grade of a stainless steel bolt? Im looking for two 10.5" long 9/16" bolts to be used for automotive repair and would like to have the stainless steel bolts if they are grade 5 or stronger.
Also anyone know of a good place on-line to order bolts?

Most bolt grades with be stamped with a number, if not you should be able to tell by the number of radial lines located at the bolt head. Your standard oem auto grade bolt is grade 5. Grade 5 bolts have 3 evenly spaced radial lines on the head. For me.... whenever replacing auto parts I always upgrade to grade 8. Grade 8 bolts have 6 evenly spaced radial lines on the head.
3 lines = Grade 5, tensile strength 120,000psi
6 lines = Grade 8, tensile strength 150,000psi
With you wanting to use stainless.... 18-8 Stainless identification markings are going to vary differently.
