Should I lease this horse?
I have been riding at a lesson barn for over a year now and i have gotten really attached to this horse. My trainer asked me about leasing him, my mom thinks that's a great idea and great practice because we are planning to get a horse. The barn has 60 horses that are pastured in the summer. Every rid-able horse has its own set of tack and grooming tools. The horse i want is a lesson horse but is only use by me. Would leasing be any different that just riding and taking care of him once every week now? I would keep him there and i cant be there everyday since both my parents work and i cant drive yet. I don't really care if anyone else uses him, so should i half lease? What should my contract entail?
If i could drive I would be out there everyday, I rather be with him than hanging on my friends couch or something. It all matters when my parents would take me I would think I could be there atleast 3 times a week.
How many times a week could you ride him? If once a week is all you have time for, there isn't much point in a lease. If you can get to the barn at least 3 times a week, it may be worth trying a half lease.
Usually in a lease, you pay the cost of board. You aren't usually responsible for any other costs. Since it would just be a half lease, you can negotiate the price. You would probably schedule with the owner when, and what days you would come out to ride.
