Question for Experienced Auto Mechanics Regarding My Brakes...?
A couple of months ago I noticed that my front wheel would squeak whenever I stepped on the brakes. I assumed it was because I needed to change my brake pads. Well I never did, and the other day I noticed that now whenever I step on the brakes, it grinds loudly. I've had no choice but to continue driving like this for the last few days, and now I've noticed squeaking from that wheel when I am driving slow, and not stepping on the brakes. So now I assume I need to replace my brake pads and rotors. Does this sound right? Is there anything else I may need to replace? Should I replace all 4 sets of brake pads, or just the front ones. Should I replace the rotor(s)? Your input is greatly appreciated.
yes you should replace the brake pads and rotors on all four wheel ends you should have done this several weks ago when you first noticed the squeeking when applying the brakes although you may just have some dirt caught between the pads and rotors but its unlikely. you cna never perform too much maintenance on a vehicle ever. i change my brakes every year wether or not they need them i chnage the pads and rotors every time i never ever machine my rotors or drums i just go ahead and replace them it gives me peace of mind to do it that way. it does sound like your vehicle needs pads rotors and checking the calipers and slides to make sure they are working properly. and i always tell everyone the same thing " Preventive maintenance is always better then repair"
