open razor shaving with the grain or against?
ive introduced open razor shaving to my barbershop, but cant get a really close shave unless i both shave with the grain then against, however this increases the chance of razor burn and nicks, ive recently purchased a facial steamer and it makes a big difference but still feel as if i should be getting a closer shave going with the grain alone, i also use both proraso pre shave cream and shave soap and im using derby double edge safety blades, would i be better with a traditional open razor with fixed blade?
It is always advised to shave with the grain,not against it.Not only will you dull your blade very quickly you will also cause razor burn and bumps.It is very difficult to get as close a shave by not going against the grain.With a sharp blade,good soap and patience your technique will improve to a point as good as shaving against the grain.
