Opener Open Blister
I got ammonia in an open blister on my finger. What should I do?
The blister closed and then a few hours later started to hurt. I squeezed some puss out last night. This morning it had less puss, but the redness has started to travel up my finger in a line. Advice? It is my right hand pointer finger, why I am being extra-cautious.
First off, NEVER pop a blister to relieve it of its fluids, because it can lead serious infection and scarring. The fluids are there to help prevent infection and protect the spot. And it sounds to me like you have an infection. The ammonia is a toxin that your body is trying to fight off, hence the redness. I would clean out the blister with some peroxide, and leave it open or put a clean bandage on it with some antibiotic ointment. I would also call your doctor and tell him about it, and he will direct you to the best way of resolving the injury.
