Impact Joints Sockets
Jaw/Facial pain 2 weeks 1 day after all 4 wisdom teeth extracted, is this normal?
It has been a nightmare for me trying to recover from my wisdom teeth extraction. Apparently the two lower were "badly impacted" and were difficult to remove. I still have some jaw pain on the right side which was the worst to remove, the pain appears to be at the joint and radiates through my jaw. I don't believe it is the extraction hole that is causing the pain. My cheecks also feel slightly swollen and tender to the touch. My cheecks were pretty tore up after the procedure. Just want to know if this is normal, I am trying to get by on 800mg of Ibuprofen but still need a pain killer occassionaly. I whent back to the Dr. for pain about 1 week after they said It may be a dry socket and packed the hole, it helped a little but still had jaw pain. Any advice or experiences are appreciated, the pain is not excrutiating any more but enough to drive me crazy, and wonder if it is normal. Thanks.
This does sometimes happen with severely impacted wisdom teeth. I suggest seeing the oral surgeon again to find out what is wrong.The fact that he that said it "might" be a dry socket, you should get a second opinion. Any dentist knows a dry socket when they see it, even I do. A dry socket is when the bone is exposed, therefore, causing it to be "dry".
I do not think that your jaw was fractured, as the dentist would have known this happened when the surgery was performed.
You may be suffering from TMJ disorder because of the extractions.
Go back to the dentist again for another follow up.
