Hydraulic Valve Lifter
I took the heads off of my Chevy 305. How can I tell if my hydraulic lifters are any good?
When I checked under the valve cover of this engine while running, only one of the oil passages was squirting out very much oil. I just took out two of the lifters and tried to press down on the top. I could not get it to push down. Does this mean the lifter is bad? I pressed pretty hard using a screw driver. I'm pretty sure these are hydraulic lifters. I can see the clip on the top and the oil hole on the side.
its hard to say without the truck together and running. More than likely the pushrod is full of sludge. run some piano wire through it and clear it out if its clogged. Id repace those two lifters anyhow, there cheap. Any yes they are hydraulic.
