Non working Garbage disposal?
Ok My garbage disposal just went out. I turn on the power and I hear a humming from the unit. Also when i run the dishwasher it backs up into the sink. I have tried to turn the hex nut at the bottom of the unit and it appears to be frozen. IS it time just to to get a new unit?
Usually the only time you need to replace a garbage disposal is when it corrodes away and starts leaking. If it's humming, then it's just jambed. Try spraying some WD30 all around the inside of it and try the disposal wrench again. If you still don't have any luck, then try using a wooden spoon or broomstick through the top to free it up. Make sure it's turned off though, because since it hums, the reset hasn't gone out on it and when the blade frees up, it's going to take off. good luck. Oh yeah, the dishwasher will drain ok once you free up the disposal
