How do I replace the rear bearings in a 2003 Ford Focus.?
The reason i believe that it is the rear bearings is that it is an automatic and when i take the vehicle out of gear and coast, the noise level remains constant with the speed of travel. If i rev the engine while the vehicle is in motion( out of gear also) the noise still remains constant and unchanged.The noise increases with speed.My question to you is ,must I remove the rear hubs and press out the bearings,and or can I leave the rear hubs on the vehicle and use a bearing puller to remove the existing bearings and simply install a new set of bearings in their place.
Actually my bet is on the tires, If you drive over different surfaces like pavement then cement like on a freeway if the sound changes it's the tires. But if you feel you need to change the lifetime lubricated bearings that are only 4 years old then your best bet is a manual for the car it will explain it in detail. Removing the hub requires taking the brake drum off this will expose the hub, pull off the nut in the middle under the cover. once the hub is off take it to your local auto store that has a press to change the inner race, reinstall in reverse, Can't use a bearing puller as they have to be pressed in...
