Flex Pad Locking
What make my minivan shaking and knocking when I apply brake?
98 Plymouth Grand Voyager V6 3.3 Flex fuel Frontweel-drive.
I can briefly feel the engine shaking and knocking when I step on the brake. The brake seems to lock-up after the shaking and the van won't roll forward after I release the brake. I have to give it some gas and that cause it to jump/hop slightly. It randomly does that, maybe once or twice each trip, not all the time, regardless to the time of day/temperature or whether or not it already warm-up. It could happen when I started out or near the end of the 25 miles trip.
The van idle and ran good, the brake and the emergency brake are working. The brake shoes look OK and I recently change the brake pads. I read all the answers regarding this particular vihecle, I traced fuel line from fuel rail down to the tank but still can not find the fuel filter to replace; I guess filter is in the tank. Adding fuel injector cleaner and upgrading the gas does not help either.
I would greatly appreciate any advices or suggestion
Sounds like a vacuum leak, because the brakes are involved in application and the hardware looks good. Get a look at a service manual (or buy a Haynes, it's what I use), and see if they list a check for the brake booster. If it's leaking you will have brake application problems and the engine shaking is from an improper fuel/air mix , due again, to the leak in the brake booster system.
