rhodium plating a pave engagement ring?
my boyfriend and I just got my engagement ring and today we went to a couple jewelers to ask about cleaning, they told us we should have it rhodium plated which I know makes it look brand new and amazing but my band is a pave setting like this: http://www.pricescope.com/idealbb/files/519%20Dvatche%20half%20pave%20solitaire%20band.gif

and we're a little worried about it ruining the setting or diamonds in it so I'm wondering if anyone has any experience with this?

There should be no problem with the diamonds. The rhodium is dissolved into a mixture, the ring is put in, and the mixture has a current run through it. Then the rhodium reacts with the metal and "plates" it. It won't react with the diamonds or ruin them. The only thing to worry about with pave settings is that dirt will get under the diamonds, and the diamonds will use them like a file and cut through the prongs. Then when you clean away the dirt the diamonds will be loose and maybe fall out. Pave settings are especially prone to this, and the stones are difficult to reset easily. Anyway, if the ring is new then have it plated soon, but in the future be careful and make sure to keep it very clean. (I soak my ring in a half Lime Away half water solution overnight, diamonds and metal ONLY no other types of gemstones! Rinse in warm water. Look carefully for stones in case they fall out!)
