Any dog groomers here?

I need to know if you have to scissor a poodle top knot or if you can use a razor to shape it.

Also, what scissors do you guys use?

Is the Oster Power Pro Plus cordless a good razor?

I'm going to start grooming my dog at home, any advice? I have a standard poodle who we keep in a puppy cut with the top knot and a puff on her tail.

Thanks!
Saying that you don't know is not an answer. Geez. That's why I asked groomers.
I'm not starting a business... I'm just grooming my own dog at home.
I want to do it myself b/c I've seen abusive groomers and don't trust them anymore.

Hi, Professional Groomer of 11yrs here..
I think I know what you need.
Petedge.com will have everything you need at good prices.
Oster and Andis are both good clippers. I perfer Andis as they are quieter. Cordless aren't as powerful as plug in's. Your choice on that. Expect about $80-$100 for the clippers that will actually work. If you keep you poodle short a #4 blade or a #3 3/4 blade would work fine all over the body and can be used on the face and feet as well. (the lower the # the longer the hair will be. If you like a hairless face and clean feet you can use a #10 but that takes pratice) Sissoring the top knot is the only way to have on big and fluffy. You can use curved or straight sissors and a comb (expect to pratice on this as well) The tail you can comb straight out then holding the end of the hair, twist it a couple times, then take your sissors and cut straight across (cut the end of what you are holding off) this will generaly create the round poof on the end of the tail. I use Millers sissors about 71/2 inch curved or straight for this. If you aren't showing your dog, just keeping it in a puppy cut, pratice and see what look you like. You can find diagrams and suggestions online under grooming poodles. You don't need expensive fancy equipment. Good Luck.
