My hood latch broke on my 1995 Ford Aerostar van. How do I take off the front grill to open the hood?
The hood latch just pulled out completely when I tried to pop open the hood. The latch was attached to the cable that runs under the hood to the locking mechanism. I can't use pliers to pull the cable because it is buried to deep inside a very narrow cylinder. I will take it to an auto mechanic this weekend to repair, but in the meantime I need to add powersteering fluid. How do I remove and reinsert the grill? I don't know how the grill is attached, but was told that the grill would have to be removed in order to access it. Where are the screws/push tabs for the grill located?
The cable is history, too much corrosion and not enough maintenance. Go up under the driver side wheel well, you'll see the cable, cut it there and feed it back toward the front of the van. Strip back a spot enough to hold and groove into the cable so you can grip the cable and pull on it. Use your left hand to hold the cable in front of your stripping end. This should release the hood latch. Find a spot to attach the cable so it won't drag on the ground and you'll be able to use this to open your hood in the future or until you replace the cable.
